GPU Frequencies
In desktop/notebook GPUs, the graphics cards are tuned according to their manufacturers/Board partners, depending on which frequencies they want in their notebook/desktop GPUs.
If they want power efficiency, they want to tune the frequencies lower than normal, resulting in less power consumption and loss of performance.
If they want performance, they will either let the frequencies default or tune the frequencies a little higher for more performance. Hence, the GPU will consume more power.
The higher the clock speed, the better the performance of the GPU.

Synthetic Benchmark Performance
These benchmarks are measured by GPU benchmarking software like 3DMark Time Spy graphics score and Passmark Performance Testsuite.
What is the Passmark Performance Test suite?
The Passmark performance test suite is a 3D benchmark designed for video cards by using the DirectX feature.
It puts a load on the GPU for various DirectX versions like DX9, DX10, DX11, and DX12 provides separate benchmark results, and gives you the average G3D mark score.
What is the 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark?
It calculates both the CPU and GPU performance and gives you the system’s overall score. It also ranks your overall score on the internet and ranks your system accordingly.
Benchmark Tools | Ryzen 5 8500G (i-GPU Radeon 740M 2.8GHz) |
---|---|
Passmark | 3492 |
3DMark Time Spy Graphics | 1920 |

Is the AMD Radeon 740M good for gaming?
For Entry-level gamers who don’t have a budget to buy a dedicated graphics card or a laptop with a decent dedicated GPU, AMD Radeon 740M will be a decent GPU to let you play older titles and even some new AAA titles thanks to FSR.
If you care about graphics quality and performance then Radeon 740m is not for you. You should get a decent gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU or an external GPU if you are using a Ryzen 8500G processor.
From the gaming benchmark of the Radeon 740M graphics card, we can see that most games tested are AAA titles, a mixture of both older and newer, and some esports titles.
Radeon graphics 740M is handling them at 1080p low and in some cases even at med settings though with FSR but it is still playable. In some games, I have lowered the resolution to 900p on some highly demanding titles.
You can easily run older games in 1080p med-high settings like Hitman 1, 2, and 3, NFS Heat, Payback, Unbound and older NFS games, Fifa 23 and older, Tomb Raider 2013, and a lot more.
What is the Radeon 740M equivalent GPU to Nvidia?
Radeon 740m easily beats the Nvidia MX350 dedicated GPU and is equivalent to MX450 and GTX 870M in terms of performance on a notebook.
Regarding desktops, the Radeon 740M GPU beats the GT 1030 and is equivalent to the GTX 1050 Ti.
The Radeon 740M igpu comes fairly close to GTX 1050 Ti in Open CL and Vulkan score.
